James Bay The Handsome Singer From The Burberry Show Made Us A Playlist
The Debrief: Need a Spotify update? Here are the songs James loves that aren't played nearly enough
Cast your mind back to earlier this week when London Fashion Week was in full swing. Despite the madness, everyone managed to CTFD for 10 minutes on Monday to catch the beautiful Burberry show. As per last season, the whole thing was soundtracked by live music. This time around, it was the turn of James Bay, a 23-year-old singer from Hertfordshire who got to stand at the top of the catwalk under the watchful gaze of Anna Wintour, Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne. 'I've never been a "live sound track" before, he told The Debrief. 'That was a really cool and interesting new experience. And it was amazing to be part of such a huge event for the fashion world! Thanks to Burberry for inviting me to play.'
Anyways we asked James to give us a little insight into what he likes to listen to when he's not performing for fashion royalty and he made us a playlist of all his favourite songs of the minute that don't get played nearly enough.
Open Your Heart by Hyde & Beast
'Big, fat sticky guitar sounds and delicious pop melodies, reminiscent of ’70s T.Rex-style boogie-rock.'
Don't Tell Your Friends About Me by Blake Mills
'Bare bones, honest songwriting. Smart lyrics and great guitar sounds.'
Georgia by Emily King
'This song has a beautiful, subtle groove. It's a ballad, but you can dance to it. There's some amazing, Disney-esq string samples too. Pretty enchanting.'
California by Delta Spirit
'This is a monster tune – dark and brooding, and another with beautifully honest lyrics. It reminds me of driving down american highways in the middle of the night on tour. Favourite line – "I want you to wander silent past my outstretched arms."'
I Won't Wait by Eva Stone
'Eva opened for me at Dingwalls in Camden earlier this year. I hope she goes a long long way. With a voice like that she really deserves to! I Won't Wait is an incredible moment in her live set and shows off those pipes beautifully.'
Steamroller by Port Isla
'A future classic. Massive tune.'
Guiding Light by Foy Vance
'This is a stunner. "When I need to get home, you're my guiding light" is, in my opinion a pretty perfect lyric. This song is a hidden anthem.'

Made Of Glass by KT Tunstall
'I hope KT Tunstall's fifth album Invisible Empire//Crescent Moon didn't pass everyone by…!? I reckon it might be her best yet. Made Of Glass is just one of many brilliant songs on it.'
Red Eyes by War On Drugs
'More music for driving across great big, wide-stretching landscapes. I love all the modulating synth sounds in the background of the track (and the rest of this WOD album) Great production! Tasty vocal distortions!'
Friday Fish Fry by Kelis
'I'm probably not the most obvious Kelis fan, but can we backtrack for a second to this awesome track! I first saw her playing this and others off her most recent album FOOD on Later… with Jools Holland. Delicious horns and other old soul sounds, love it.'
