The Best Outdoors Bars, Clubs And Cafes To Spend Your Summer Getting Merry At

The Best Outdoors Bars, Clubs And Cafes To Spend Your Summer Getting Merry At

The Debrief: Sun worshippers and smokers rejoice

While going out at midnight and not coming back until 1pm the next day is an admirable show of stamina, this summer you might want to take things a little... easier: Enter - the outdoor day party. Pretend you’re on a terrace in ibiza when you’re really just down the road from your house, munch on a freshly cooked chicken wing while dancing under a (fake) palm tree or simply stretch out and relax outdoors with a great soundtrack - there’s a location for all of it. Unless it rains, of course.

The Rainbow, Birmingham
If you've ever been to a party in Birmingham chances are you've been to The Rainbow, an eclectic collection of music spaces in Digbeth. If you haven't, then this summer is as good a time as ever - with the painted space under the arches 'The Arena' and Garden area hosting big parties all summer, including 'happiest festival in the world', The Colour Festival. Definitely the outdoor venue you'll come away from with the worst (/best) hangover.

Netil360, Hackney
If pretending you’re on holiday when you’re actually on the Central Line takes too much imagination, then Netil360 is the one. A summer work space as well as a party place, there's no membership policy so anyone can take their laptop up top to hang out seven days a week. This weekend there's free coffee from CoffeeSpace on Friday (in honour of the London Coffee Festival), giant jenga and DJs on Saturdays and, for an incredibly do-goody Sunday - yoga, wellness taster sessions, massage from The Well Garden. Yes, they're serving juice rather than cocktails. Follow the summer's events here.

Ali Baba Bar @ Copeland Park, Peckham
Behind the Bussey Building in Peckham is new bar from the founders of a juice bar found off Rye Lane. Throughout the winter they've been shivering around fire bins to bring you sake and whiskey macs but now the summer months are here the space will really come into its own. DJs feature on the 'terrace' every weekend weekend all summer (while those fires will remain as it gets chillier) so try it out early for a special bank holiday event ‘Freshly Squeezed’ hosted by DJs/bar regulars Bradley Zero, Myles Mears and Matt Chlebek. Try Vagabundo Brunch on weekends before the dancing starts. Check them out here.

Oval Space, Bethnal Green
This multi purpose space (it has hosted fashion sales, morning raves and a lot of v sweaty evening ones) has one great bragging right over its rivals - a big outside space that's ripe for day parties. While what's out there will change depending on who is hosting the party inside this summer already has a strong line up. This weekend is the space's first ever 24 hour party hosted by techno legend Jeff Mills and sustenance over the summer will come from Behind This Wall serving everything from Breakfast to grilled lamb shish's, coconut gelato and Mescal slammers. See you on the terrace. Check it out here.

The Faversham, Leeds
In the heart of student-land, the famous Faversham hosts one of the summer's best places to relax and dance. The reason it's so good? The outside space! Through the main venue there's The Garden and The Lawn, two spaces that are kitted with everything you need for a long day out. The venue's showpiece The Garden Party returns this weekend to celebrate ten years of summer weekend's with some of the best DJs in the world including Dixon and Axel Boman. The first two (set for bank holiday weekends) are sold out but more will be announced soon.

Fleeting Arms, Beergarden, York
York is the sort of place you'd expect a garden party to be attended by a minor royal rather than an outside rave but a new arts / drinking space on the brilliantly named Gillygate are trying to change that. Named the Fleeting Arms for how temporary it is (the organisers say six months over summer and they're out) look out for everything from craft sales to pamper sales and yes, dancing.
