We Tried On All This Season's Boldest Prints At Monki So You Don’t Have To

The Debrief: Because we need some joyful stuff in our wardrobes right about now

It’s easy in the January rut to keep throwing on the same grey jumper and feel completely bleurgh. But there’s no point moping, wearing grey will only make you feel worse, so time to go and buy some bright, cheery printy things that will make you look vibrant even if you feel miserable.

We headed to Monki to try on their new SS15 stuff, full of mega prints and bright colours with a bit of an arty vibe. You can thank us later.

The Double Print Combo

These culottes could honestly be passed off as a designer pair, no problem. They’re silky soft and the print is really precise. The shirt is a great piece of artwork - all those rough brush strokes are vibing off all the art inspo we’ve seen on the catwalk over the last few seasons. It might look bright on the hanger, but once it’s on, it doesn’t feel too whacky.

The Monochrome Trousers

These monochrome streaked trousers feel really luxe but cost just £25 - a bargain for a smart trouser that you can wear with everything from a blazer to a sweatshirt. I paired them with a bright orange jersey top to add some colour (my face has an anaemic vibe atm, I’m guessing yours does too) but they would work just as well for work with a navy roll neck.

The Tube Dress

This is the kind of thing that I would buy, bring home, and my boyfriend would look at me like I’ve lost my mind. But it’s AMAZING. Not only does it have the kookiest Picasso-esque print all over it, but it covers everything from your neck to your ankles like a comfy, albeit a bit clingy, fashion sock. It feels super glam, despite involving no faff - you just put it over your head and then you’re dressed. My favourite kind of outfit. I’d buy this now and hold onto it until Valentines day, for an unconventional date outfit at a snazzy place.
Dress, £25

A Kooky T Shirt

Skirt, £30, T shirt, £8
This T shirt is so arty-farty it even has a paint brush on it. I wanted to put a leather jacket over this look but couldn’t find one. The skirt is a really clear, sharp shade of lime (not the cheap slightly murky shade you often find on the highstreet) and you can wear it with your jumpers before it gets warm enough to wear with an off the shoulder top (THE shape for summer - you heard it here first...)

A Striped Tent Sweater Dress

Dress, £30

A sweatshirt dress is one of those things that once you try, you will never go back. They're warm but roomy, and you can basically hide your entire body under there, but if you pick one with a decent print you don't look trampy like you've worn your dressing gown to work. Even though you feel like you have. Cunning. The sizing on this is quite generous too, so you can go down a size if you don't want to feel too swamped.

A Mega-Print Kimono

Top, £15, skirt, £20, kimono, available in store

I'm a big fan of kimonos because you can wear them anywhere - over something skimpy for a night out, over skinny jeans and a roll neck at the weekend, or over your bikini on your holli-bobs. They're ridiculously versatile. This aztec print kimono has a great mix of summery colours without feeling too in your face, and you can even wear it on it's own as a dress if you wrap it around properly and add a leather belt.
