We Tried On All The Fitness Gear In Adidas So You Don't Have To
The Debrief: January always = new gym gear. Even if you don't end up wearing it.
So it’s January and you think you may still be paying a direct debit for a gym somewhere. Ooops. Everyone knows that a new fitness wardrobe is the perfect way to motivate yourself when it comes to exercise. I may not know what I’m doing in this Body Combat class but at least my capris and racer-back bra coordinate.
Personally I like to stock up on as many jazzy pairs of leggings as possible, purely so I don’t use the excuse of not having any clean pairs to stay in and binge-watch episodes of Girls.
Adidas has definitely come a long way since my popper pants obsession of 1998. I wear my Stan Smiths at every opportunity and it’s also worth heading there to find some bits to work up a sweat in.
1. The set that makes you feel like an Olympic athlete
I could see myself doing a U.S Athletics team style pose in this set, it’s that good. My thing is taking risks with my workout wear that I wouldn’t usually take when it comes to my everyday outfits. I’m talking leggings with panels that make me feel superhuman, graphic prints that clash with your iPhone case and even the odd headband. It also helps to have a sports bra you don’t mind showing off in its entirety.
2. The failsafe workout combo
OK so my thing is Zumba. I’ve been known to arrange my social life around my classes and I even listen to a homemade Spotify playlist to remember the routines. My look is all about business on top and party on the bottom half, so it’s a bonus that these monochrome leggings are high-waisted, supportive and shouldn’t fall down. No one wants an awkward moment when squatting.
3. The top that will motivate you to start running
I really wanted to like running. It’s free and I even downloaded the couch to 5k app, did a few circuits around my local park and never went back again. Perhaps I was wearing the wrong thing. I’m strangely fascinated by the long-sleeved tees that hardcore runners have and the thumbholes on this keep you warmer, even in the depths of Winter.
Supernova tee, £34; leggings, £60 (in store)
4. The Yoga pants that remind me of 2007
Missing hareem pants? Well it turns out that they’re actually pretty useful for yoga and getting into those tricky, Twister-like poses. I actually prefer the cold shoulder trend when it's in this guise, this top is thoughtfully designed to allow for ease of movement and will probably win you major brownie points with your teacher.
5. The outfit you can’t get lost in
If you’re that shy and retiring person that doesn’t like to be singled out in your first class, then this fluoro look probably isn’t for you. Still, it's a great outfit to keep in mind for Summer and all of those charity runs you've accidentally signed up for. Who wouldn't want to be a vision in peach, sprinting towards the finish line in this?
6. The leggings that will give you life
Who says that athleisure has to be about all the greys and neutrals? If I'm going to wear my sportswear out and about, then I want to be inspired by Art Attack, thank you very much. The StellaSport range is the perfect mixture of paintbox brights, bold prints and pieces you could quite happily incorporate into everyday life.
