Vans Unveils Dreamy Silky Opening Ceremony Collaboration
The Debrief: Adds to wishlist
Take centre stage in Opening Ceremony’s ballet twist on Vans’ classic trainer For afar they look like your average Vans skate shoe, but up close you’ll see they are tailored out of smooth, shiny, bunhead approved satin. The pastel coloured range is a luxe twist on the skater-approved sneakers.
As unlikely as it is, satin is becoming a fairly popular fabric for trainers. The textile, which we’re much more familiar with seeing on bridesmaid dresses, throw cushions and ballet pumps, has found a new audience with sneakerheads. Ever since Fenty by Rihanna debuted a pastel pair of kicks with satin uppers, Stuart Weitzman, Jill Sander, Miu Miu, Superga, Nike and Zara have followed suit.
If you’ve had half an eye on Vans recently, then you’ll know that they’ve teamed up with this American concept store before. For the last few months, they've routinely dropped luxurious new limited-edition collaborations that push the boundaries of what we consider Vans to be. The ongoing project has seen them reimagine their slip-on in fancy floral brocade and dip their OG Old Skool LX trainers in glitter. Part of the so-called ‘Passion’ pack collab, the twinkly kicks were an instant sell-out, which is a feat we suspect these new silky sneakers will match. Rather than just stamping both brand's names on a shoe, the joint collection repositions Vans and their footwear in a new market, making them smarter and more sophisticated.
The Vans x Opening Ceremony ‘Satin’ collection will be available in pink and cream, red and white, saffron and white and black and yellow, from the 11th August at Opening Ceremony.
