A Lesson In Colour Blocking Courtesy Of Paloma Elsesser
The Debrief: Stealing this for the work Christmas party...
Last night at the CFDA awards (AKA the fashion Oscars) body-posi spokesperson, model, muse and social media juggernaut Paloma Elsesser took a moment to school us in the art of colour blocking. Wearing an Adam Selman look from his upcoming spring/summer 2018 collection, she stood out as a symphony of tangerine charmeuse in a slip dress with a thigh-grazing slit and a matching gown.
Egg yolky yellow the shade of Tango, Cheetos and Selman’s dress for Paloma was played out across the spring catwalks. It took centre stage at the Jeremy Scott, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tom Ford and Calvin Klein shows. While some looks were broken up with cut-outs or contrast-coloured zips, many were styled with a head-to-toe wash of this safety jacket shade. After a season of milky millennial pink, can we all agree this is a welcome change?

It’s natural to approach this blindingly vibrant hue with caution, but as Paloma shows this is 100% ill-advised. Embrace the warmth and effervescence of this startling shade by letting it cocoon you. If you intend to wear a slip dress at any point this winter (hello NYE), then try your best to tonally match it to your jacket for an ‘I just woke up like this’ allure. By wearing her hair slicked back Paloma artfully turned down the heat and making what would otherwise be an OTT look (even for a red carpet event) seem somewhat low-key. Add in flame-coloured shoes and a blusher that warms the face to match this fiery shade and you’re ready to take on the world. I bet you have half an idea of what we’re wearing to our office Christmas party now…
