The One Footwear Trend From Fashion Week You Need To Know About
The Debrief: Time to ditch the ankle boots…
It’s not even officially winter yet, and we’re already obsessed with this new footwear craze. While it’s hard to beat the classic appeal of a pair of black leather ankle boots, the street style sirens at Milan Fashion Week have found a way to make over-the-knee boots our kryptonite. By showing they can be worn with anything and everything, we’ve got enough proof to know these shoes are versatile enough to take us through the dark, cold days of December and out into the sunshine of next spring.
We’re not going to lie to you: OTK boots have never sat quite right with us, regardless of who’s designed them they are always tainted by images of swashbuckling pirates. While there are plenty of Puss in Boots examples out there, there are now more fantastic fashionable moments to counter these panto connotations.
Though OTK boots crawled the catwalks of Saint Laurent, Altruzzara and Givenchy last February, it’s the way the fashion set has been wearing them IRL that has us hooked. Rather than tucking their boots into jeans or teaming them with slinky, skimpy dresses, the likes of Eva Chen and Anna Dello Russo have been teaming them with skirts. And, not just one silhouette, all kinds of long, short, flowing, A-Line and tailored skirts.
After seasons of sheer and revealing trends, there is a movement underway to more modest dressing. Embracing the female form without actually showing it is part of the appeal of the up-and-coming brand Rejina Pyo and Victoria Beckham’s label. Delivering long-sleeves and even longer-hems has been the raison d’être of these two brands. As we progress into winter, this look continues is made a heck of a lot easier with the addition of leg-covering OTK boots.
Technically speaking, the look is called lampshading and has been doing the rounds for years. Like, nearly three years. But, don’t let its lack of newness put you off because its still afresh way to give your summer dress a little more life. Try one of the six boots below with a handkerchief hemmed dress or a flowing midi skirt to be on point from now until next year…
