The Debrief: You can thank us for this overload of prettiness later

Illustrations by Elyse Blackshaw

An Instagram is lovely, but let’s be honest an iPhone camera doesn’t do justice to the movement, weight or texture of a garment. As fashion week zips around the world from New York to Paris, we wanted to get beyond blurry pixels and really get to grips with this season’s collections. Evoking the skills of fashion commentators from a bygone era, illustrator Elyse Blackshaw will be following the fashion set to give The Debrief an exclusive tour of next season's collections.

Starting in New York, Elyse used vivid colours and wild patterns to capture the fit and feel of Tommy Hilfiger's, VFiles', Custo Barcelona’s and Calvin Klein's collections.

London was the next stop on the Fashion Week tour bus. There was a definite grunge tone to Topshop Unique, while Burberry riffed on the great master sculptor Henry Moore's work. Over at Ashley Williams things took a political turn with punkish tartan and slogan tops. But, it was Christopher Kane who stole the headlines with his first see-now-buy-now capsule collection.

Over in Milan, Prada redefined feminism, Moschino made magic for our fragile souls, Versace powered into protest wear and Anna Kiki's Barbarella collection signalled the label out to be Italy's next big thing.

Fashion month came to a close in Paris with an out-of-this-world Space-themed show at Chanel, a right-on collection at Dior, an avant-garde air at Balenciaga and fun, faux furs at Miu Miu.
