Uber Are Offering A Helicopter Service
The Debrief: Accidentally drunk ordering one would not be the best idea...
Uber are trialing a helicopter service at the Sundance Film Festival this year. They will partner with Airbus Group to offer attendees a ride between Salt Lake City airport and the landing pad in Park City. Though aimed for people at the festival, the helicopter is also available for any Uber users in the area to request on the normal Uber app.
This will certainly be a way to make an entrance at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, which runs from the 21st to the 31st of January. H125 and H130 helicopters will be used for this 15 minute scenic journey, advertised as a way to skip out on the traffic. Though it’s probably getting to go in a helicopter that’ll appeal more. An Uber SUV will also take people to and from the helicopter landing pads - clearly a helicopter ride just wasn’t enough.
This isn’t the first time Uber have offered helicopter rides. They were also available at the Cochella Festival last April, and they were used just before the 4th of July in 2013 as a way to get from NYC to East Hampton.
Yet Uber have offered other ways to expand their services. This includes rickshaw rides in India and boat rides in Turkey. So this ‘UberCopter’ seems to be the next step. Tom Ender, CEO of Airbus, has called it a ‘pilot project’. This suggests it may actually become a more general service.
But this ride will definitely cost more than your typical Uber. For $200 per person during the day and $300 per person at night, it doesn’t sound like we’ll soon be taking helicopters out to do the weekly shop. Imagine the financial freak out every time there's a price surge...
