Scientists Are Looking For People To Lie In Bed For 60 Days For A Hefty Fee
The Debrief: Dream job or your worst nightmare?
Being in bed is fantastic. That feeling when you first get under the (newly cleaned) sheets after a long day, waking up on a Saturday to no alarm and lounging around on your bed all Sunday morning watching Netflix with a coffee and breakfast. Bliss, right? So, how would you feel about spending a straight 60 days bed-ridden? Excited? Nervous? Anxious? Thrilled to your tip toes?
If it’s the latter – this is the ‘job’ for you…we put job in quotation marks as we’re not sure this officially qualifies as job as it literally requires you to spend 60 days lying down.
The institute for Space Medicine and Physiology in Toulouse, France are on the lookout for 24 people to stay in bed on Earth for 60 days. Tickle your fancy? You need to be between the ages of 20 and 45, a non-smoker and relatively healthy and physically active with a body mass index of between 22 and 27.
Participants must have at least one shoulder in contact with the bed for the entire time…so how you go to the toilet we have no idea, and they will be fed different drugs daily. These will include anti-inflammatories and antioxidant food supplements to help counter the effects of weightlessness on the body as apparently lying down for a long period of time can mimic the same effects on the body as being weightless in space. Well we never. The scientists will be testing how easy it is for the participants to wash, exercise and go to the toilet while lying down.
Oh, and if you were to take part you’d receive around €16, 000 for your troubles. While lying down for two months sounds slightly appealing, the thought of exercising bed-side does not. Think about it – you go for a bed run and get all sweaty, oh and then you’re expected to wash within your own sweaty bed too. And go to the toilet. No thanks.
Tweet us if this sounds like your ideal job as we have ALL the questions for you.
