Science* Says This Is The Perfect Time To Fart In A Relationship
The Debrief: Truly fart-capturing
Getting into a relationship is great, but it comes with its perplexities. 'What do I wear when meeting your boyfriend’s mum for the first time? Smart? Casual? SMASUAL?!' 'Can I say ‘I love you’ after 3 months or is that way too keen?' 'When can I unleash my weirdness and put my fake and exhausting ‘I’m so normal and not at all crazy’ persona in a furnace?'
But, what no one gives air time is farting. More specifically farting in from of a significant other. When is the perfect stage in a relationship to let one rip, as it were?
A study by Mic has confirmed that we believe that 2-6 months is the golden time to start giving into our real human functions and farting in front of each other.
According the study, ‘if you’re having regular sleepovers, you’ve probably broken the barrier’. Well that settles it then.
Not everyone is so relaxed however and 9.3% of people would rather wait till at least a year.
Robert Huizenga, who has spent three decades as a clinical therapist, wrote on his marriage blog:
‘Farting in front of your significant other means you feel free to move beyond your roles,’ he explains, ‘You may even find yourselves discussing family roles and expectations that you bring to each other. You need not carry the burden of continually being prim and proper.’
The 2-6 month period of a relationship also coincides with when a couple is likely to say ‘I love you’ for the first time (5 months). So maybe unashamedly-farting and true love comes hand in hand?
