Lena Dunham Didn't Quite Delete Twitter, Did Delete Her Nipples And Jessa

The Debrief: Sometimes even the most verbose of red carpet chats will be turned into a shock-horror headline...

More news from the Golden Globes 2015… While she walked about the red carpet dressed in a bright red gown, doing IRL celebrity stuff, Lena Dunham told E!'s Ryan Seacrest that she's not as in touch with that ultimate URL celebrity portal – Twitter – as she used to be, for good reason.

Here's a video of what she said:

If you can't watch it right now, here's what she said: 'I deleted Twitter because I'm trying to create a safer space for myself emotionally.' She must mean the app, because she didn't say she deleted her account, just Twitter, which is the app's name too, right?

'People threaten my life and tell me what a cow I am, so I decided I was gonna... I check it occasionally, but it's not the same co-dependence Twitter and I once shared.'

She continued: 'It's the dark side of the internet. There's a lot of people I love on Twitter, but unfortunately you can't read those without reading deranged neo-cons telling you you should be buried under a pile of rocks.'

And we know a whole bunch of people who aren't even neo-cons (who are, by the way, ultra-conservatives who hate that Lena is pro-choice) who still take issue with Lena via Twitter. Anyway, we get that Lena might want to take a little time out of writing bon mots for free so she can, you know, put her best work into books or screenplays and avoid death threats at the same time.

However, some people don't get that deleting Twitter doesn't mean you're not done with it. Lena was later tweeting at the Golden Globes ceremony itself:

It could be that she wanted to check up on the reviews of Girls, which has its fourth season premiere in the US last night. Or she just wanted to check up on brand her. Whatever the reason, her involvement with the social network is entirely as she said it is. That hasn't stopped headlines like 'Lena Dunham announces she's quit Twitter because of DEATH threats'. Which pretty much simplifies her point into the same old oh-you-poor-woman-victim-you story we see wheeled out about people like Maria Fowler or whoever's crying on Made In Chelsea the most this series.

Things Lena has deleted? Well, right before the Golden Globes ceremony, Lena showed her own beige-ish globes on Girls producer Jenni Konner's Instagram profile. In a topless photo, Lena pointed out (by grabbing one boob) how she'd kindly deleted her nipples for a nipple-phobic Instagram with the assistance of some nipple covers. Even though you really can see most of her boob anyway. Jenni's caption read: '#FREETHENIPPLE cover @lenadunham'

Oh, and Lena's deleted Jessa/Jemima Kirke from the cast of Girls. OK, chill out, we're only joking, but it was pretty lol when Julia Louis-Dreyfus from Veep, Lena's co-nominee in one category, sat with her, Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet. Jemima was presumably off somewhere else (maybe just a wee? It was a three-hour ceremony after all) when a photo was taken of the four of them, and Lena uploaded it to Instagram with the caption 'Jemima got weird so we replaced her'.

TLDR? Lena Dunham's not quit Twitter, but giving up nipples might be easier than you think.
