Kenyan Lawyer Wants To Marry Malia Obama, Offers Barack Loads Of Cattle
The Debrief: Felix Kiprono says he’s fancied her since 2008…
Malia Obama might only be turning 17 next month, but she’s already got a wannabe suitor for marriage – a Kenyan lawyer called Felix Kiprono.
He’s pretty serious about his convictions, too. ‘People might say I’m after the family’s money, which is not the case. My love is real,’ he told The Nairobian.
Perhaps not real enough to consider that Malia’s got plans to do more with her life than play house, because Felix has her married life set in stone already: ‘Ours will be a simple life. I will teach Malia how to milk a cow, cook ugali (a porridge) and prepare mursik (a sour milk) like any other Kalenjin woman.’
It’s not certain how old Felix is, but the paper calls him a ‘young lawyer’, so he must be at least 22, right? It’s still pretty creepy if you consider, though that he ‘got interested in her in 2008,’ when she was about nine years old.
‘As a matter of fact, I haven’t dated anyone since and promise to be faithful to her. [Aw!] I have shared this with my family and they are willing to help me raise the bride price.’
What’s a bride price, you say? It’s a dowry of 50 cows, 70 sheep and 30 goats. Just in case you’re scoffing at this, we do something similar in the West, where the bride’s parents are expected to pay for the wedding.
Somehow we can’t see the Obamas taking Felix up on the offer, though, so the prospect of a White House lawn strewn with imported livestock, and a president’s daughter milking cows in Nairobi, might both be a long way off.
