A 'Friends' Co-Creator Just Ruined All Hope Of A Reunion. Sorry Guys
The Debrief: Sorry to ruin your Tuesday, guys
The whole entire world is fixated on a Friends reunion, am I right? I know I am that's for sure. Well, that idea just got well and truly shut down. By shut down we mean it will never happen, sorry to ruin your Thursday. Marta Kauffman, a co-creator of the show, did a G&A with Deadline and basically ruined any prospect of a reunion ever happening, In the world, ever. She was asked about the Friends cast getting back together, and this is what she said:
'Yes. They nag me all the time about it and my answer is that Friends was a show about that time in your life when your friends are your family, and in a weird way, this isn't that different. Once you start having family of your own it changes, and the show was over. A show has a lifespan I believe, it has a lifespan like anything else, and there's no reason to continue doing it just because people miss the characters. Watch the old ones, there is no way we could win that. And there's no way it would be satisfying and it'll never happen. We'll never do it.'
So, that’s it guys. 'It’ll never happen,’ and ‘we’ll never do it,’ are currently ringing in our ears as dreams of that 20-year reunion happening slip away. We're fine...are you fine? It's all fine.We kind of get it though. If Ross, Joey, Moncia and the rest meet up 20-years down the line, they’d probably all have kids and would realistically only be able to meet up for like max an hour. Then Ross and Rachel’s would get a phone call from their neighbour to tell them Emma had been come home drunk and been violently sick (she'd be around 19 now, no?) and they'd have to get their asses home immediately.
Or it would just be a 30 minute show of WhatsApp exchanges with the gang saying things like: ‘let’s meet at Central Perk on the 28th of December 2018 at 5.15pm.’ Then Phoebe would chime in with ‘oh I can’t make that date can we change it to 2019?.’ Life is complicated enough without a reunion. Even if it would have been the best thing ever and really we’re deeply, deeply saddened by this news. No sarcasm there, we really are.
