While The Casual Vacancy’s BBC adaptation and, oh yeah, the back catalogue of Harry Potter films tell us just some of the many ways that JK Rowling is all-in-all one of the coolest best writers out there, she’s just done another brilliant thing to add to the list.
A fan went to the signing for her book The Silkworm (written under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith) and gave her a notebook. Inside it, he left a note to tell her that, though he was bullied throughout childhood, and her books helped him escape from the pain he was going through. And her reply, published by Buzzfeed was just incredibly sweet.
‘What you say about Harry helping you at what was clearly a dreadful time in your life means more to me than I can easily express. I freely confess that I loathe bullying and the way it is so often 'handled' in schools.’
‘Your experience is shocking and disturbing and that you have turned out to be a compassionate, moral, highly motivated person is a high testimony to your courage. Gryffindor for you, my lad...’
Excuse us, we’re weeping a little bit… And wondering how Jo would improve how school bullying is handled, we bet her suggestion is pretty great.
