The Knee High Boot Is The Shoe Of The Season. Here’s How To Make Them Work For Everyday Life

Turns out you don't have to be into horse riding to wear them

Did anyone see the Gucci SS15 show? Anyone..? Anyone? Ok ignore my fashion geekdom, and just trust me, Gucci have made everyone want a pair of knee high boots. Ideally pastel snakeskin ones. But that's by the by, and probably not hugely wearable for most of us. You definitely want a pair of wearable ones though, even if you think it's tricky to know what to pair them with aside from jodhpurs. Which unless you're riding side saddle, is probably best avoided.

Ideally, you're aiming for a sixties style, a flat, round-toed style, paired with a short A line skirt. But we're not into dictating a one-way to wear rule - check out this line-up of ladies who will give you a handful of new ideas about how to wear your knee-highs this spring.

Try A Metallic Pair

These silver boots would scare the living daylights out of most, but check out how effective they look when worn with a simple black shift dress. Suddenly not so scary. If you've got real balls, then a gleaming gold pair is the ultimate in shiny shiny shins.** **

Go Bright, Or Go Home

An accent colour boot adds a gigantic jolt of interest to an otherwise plain-ish outfit. If yellow is too Big Bird for you, then try cobalt blue - it will look great in winter with knitwear but equally brilliant with broderie anglaise in the summer.

Wear A High Shine Baggy Boot

It used to be a real pain when boots were too baggy (I've always been plagued with skinny calves, and my granny had to sew elastic into the back of my jeans until I was 17) but now it's actually cool to have a calf gap. Buy your boots big and baggy, just make sure they're the structured, stiff sort or you will just look like your leg warmers fell down.

Sex Up A Black Suede Pair

A simple black suede pair of knee highs are invaluable - they will complement any sexier, shoutier accessories without being an apologetic boring black boot. Buy a flat pair and they will last you ten years.

Make Them Meet Your Skirt

Get yourself a pair of just over the knee boots and wear with a knee length skirt, to have everyone guessing how high your boots really go. Oooh. Sassy.

Play With Your Hemlines

If Caroline Sieber had wandered out the house with just her tiny short skirt and her knee highs, she might have got a few raised eyebrows. But the insy winsy short skirt paired with the longer cape length and knee highs feels cool. And classy.
