Cheap, Fun Things To Do In London This Weekend

Lol, yeah. September. Wasn’t ready for that one

Cheap, Fun Things To Do In London This Weekend

Hands up if you were dramatically underprepared for September to be a thing? Us too. Not that September requires all that much of practical preparation (unless you’re about to head off to university, then you might have a few things to sort out). But there’s something about saying goodbye to the warm, lazy weekends we associate with August and falling face first into the autumnal reality of September that is a bit of a shock to the system. Yes, every single year.

I don’t know about you but we’re going to use this weekend to pretend that responsibilities aren’t a Thing and the summer vibes are never ending. Fancy joining? Great. Here’s what to get up to this weekend.

Campari-Creates-Artist

You know Campari, right? It's that red Italian liqueur you might find in your mum's booze cabinet from that one New Years Eve that she decided to make Negronis for everyone. Nevertheless, if you fancy getting to know it a bit better (it's actually quite nice, you know), the Campari team are setting up camp over in Kings Cross this weekend for a special few days of fun events. You can design your own bottle if you're feeling creative, or you can take part in a cocktail masterclass and learn how to whip some up yourself. Or you can just go down and chill with all the cool people, drink a few dranks and pray for the rain to hold off. Find out more on the London Design Festival website.

Are you ready for Karaoke like you've never seen it before? Because Bearpit Karaoke is a thing and it's making its way to Vauxhall for the weekend. The event started in Germany and the premise is pretty simple really - strangers sing karaoke in a big open space, crowds gather, more people perform, and so on and so forth. It sounds terrifying (if you're not a karaoke person) and so much fun (if you're watching the karaoke people) and costs absolutely nothing.

By night

It's the last day of the Charlton and Woolwich Free Film Festival so what better reason to venture down and catch a film on a Saturday night. Like the good old days. This weekend they're doing a Grease sing-a-long, of course, and there'll be food and drink around to buy with all that money you won't have had to spend on a ticket. Seeing as it's the last one, there'll be a bit of a party vibe going with music and things going on into the evening if you need a bit more pazang from your weekends than John Travolta in leather trousers can provide. Find out more on the website.

Sunday 17 September

By day

If there's one thing you make time for on Sunday, make it the FOUNDATION event in Hackney. This weekend is the first instalment of an amazing gathering that puts black queer culture in the middle of its own narrative. We're talking live performances, DJ sets, screenings, workshops, panel talks - the works. And the line up looks just as good with familiar London faces like BBZ, Larry B and Pussy Palace all due to make appearances. While the gathering is completely inclusive, they intend to provide a safe space for QTIPOC to celebrate their culture and beauty. Find out more about what'll be going on over on the event website.
