Great British high street, we love you, but we need to go on a break. You need an injection of funky fresh new brands to spice up your bore-drobe, and we’re here to help.

Let us help you avoid the quelle horror that is S.S.D (that’s a same dress disaster) with a unique treat from one of the following independent brands #newyearnewyoubaby

EDIT

EDIT created a huge buzz on the fashion scene with its debut Pre SS15 collection. Every ‘in the know’ fashionista loved their Alphabet sweats and mix and match feminine pieces with a high fashion edge. Practical, wearable sophisticated staples, EDIT’s pieces are a great addition to any wardrobe.

A great across the board brand, there’s something to suit every occasion. Statement prints, crisp tailoring and casual but sassy separates rule at this about-to-blow-up brand.

Founded by Architect Jacqueline Chak and Genevieve Chew, EDIT started in 2012 as small-scale concept store in Hong Kong. We love this black dress. Wear with chunky plimsoles and a roll neck sweater underneath for day, and come 5pm Friday whip off that polo neck, add some heels and you’re ready for the night wearing the hottest newbie brand in town. EDIT is guaranteed to be the name on the lips of the cool crowd in 2015, so get in there first and fast!

Popseecul

Pop.see.cul started in London as the brain child of friends Pia Hakko and Pelin Yasar as fun off duty fashion line for men and women. The design duo quote film and vintage streetwear as inspiration for their rad slogan tees and killer jackets. Cara D is already a fan.

With Pop.see.cul ruling as the mother of statement tees and sweats, this GIRLS sweater has long been on my wish list. It’s no secret we are HUGE Lena Dunham/GIRLS fans at The Debrief, and turns out Lena is totes into unofficial GIRLS merch. On Bill Simmons’ podcast she discusses wearing a ‘self-promotional’ Elvis sweater, saying, ‘I didn’t know if it was too much, but then I was like well, a rapper would do this, why can’t I do this?’ EXACTLY LENA. EXACTLY.

Nor Clothing

Knitwear isn’t something we usually lust over. That’s all about to change when you meet ASOS Marketplace’s best kept secret: Nor Clothing. The handmade knitwear label is ‘breaking the boundaries of high street knitwear’. Hull based designer Eleanor Scott wanted to produce superior quality, gnarly knits that are high in style but not in price. And we think she’s more than succeeded.

Think white clean cut tops, jagged three dimensional dresses, textured waistcoats and asymmetric wrap skirts. Come SS15 you will still get plenty of wear out of this fabulous midi length peplum skirt. Pair with their asymmetric hemmed Glacier Top for top outfit points.

Tada and Toy

Obsessed doesn’t begin cover my feeling towards new jewellery brand Tada and Toy. Although prices range to up to £300, there really is something for everyone, with cutting edge, unique jewellery starting at just £30.

Tada and Toy specialise in delicate, high quality jewelry that begs to be worn every day! Creators Tansy Aspinall and Victoria van Holthe aim to make jewelry that can be personalised to each buyer’s style. Wearing one delicate piece individually is perfect for the relaxed, under-stated fashionista, while stacking up multiple items from all the perfectly complimenting collections is ideal for those wanting to make a statement.

The White Pepper

The White Pepperis an East London based, online fashion brand that offers the latest street-style and vintage inspired designs in clothing, footwear and accessories. Beginning as a humble Tumblr back in 2011, The White Pepper quickly grew into an online store, and is now the go to for the cool, in-the-know fashion crowd, flocking to the e-store for its unique, eye-catching and easy to wear designs. Now stocked in independent retailers around the globe, it’s the hip new brand you’ve been waiting for. Their bean print two piece is my next payday buy.

Bird On A Wire Vintage

If I could I’d put heart eyed emojis all over the picture of this bag, I totally would. The fur bag is the accessory to be seen with this season. But that doesn’t mean you should settle for the same one every Tom, Dick and Harry’s carrying. Support the little guy with this beauty from independent boutique Bird On A Wire Vintage. The clutches texture, cool colour combo and the fact that it’s reversible, (hello 2 bags for the price of 1!) really sets it apart from its furry competitors. The team at Bird on a Wire sources, styles, re-makes and designs their cool clothes and are ‘on a constant quest to find or create those stand out pieces that make wardrobes quiver with wanton lust.’ We can feel our wardrobes shaking as we speak…

Solace

London based eveningwear brand, Solace, stick to a white black and subdued palette, they do minimal eveningwear that’ll is guaranteed to be you’re new secret weapon. Evening wear is the chance to stand out and try that new ott trend that may be a little too much for the family gathering. Sashay and shimmy your way across the room, the sharp shining of silver floating as you move, these pants were made for walking. You’ll have everyone wondering why their wearing boring black, and why they haven’t seen these trousers on their latest high street shopping trip.

To Be Adored

I’ve been feeling pretty smug since I found the online wonderland that is To Be Adored last year. It offers the best fashion forward pieces without being too ‘try hard trendy’. The classic separates have a sophisticated Chloe-esque feel, but without the price tag. Result!

Offering the quality and got-to-have-it garments the collection has left summer and whimsical dresses behind. We’ve got a shopping crush on this beige leather top with its wrap trimmed sleeve detailing. Totally on point with the new 70s trend, beige is no-no bland with this ensemble. Get the matchy matchy skirt for full on co-ord cool. To be adored? We think we can do just that.
