We stumbled across the amazing House of Leopard on Instagram recently and immediately had to write an homage to one of the trickiest trends to pull off – a double whammy of leopard print. Remember double denim? Same gist, just even spottier. It’s hard to nail because at first you feel a bit daft, but get your combos just right and you will feel rather smug.
Check out the girls we reckon have pulled it off with panache to get their look.
**Stick To A Black Base **
Most prints look best when paired with a plain base, whether that’s white, black, or a bright colour. Mashing up prints can be pretty tricky, whereas if you keep it simple you will get the full impact of your spotty bits. Leather, shearling, thick knits and any tough textures look great worn with leopard print, too. If you want a dressier option than skater shoes, find yourself a leopard ankle boot – this season’s cult item.
Wear With Play-Doh Brights
I love bright colours mixed with the neutral tan of leopard – it feels super modern and joyous. The subtle jacquard weave of this cobalt blazer is also leopard – keep your eye out for bright colours in the same print that you can pair up with your fail-safe beige pieces.
**Max Up The Look To Triple Leopard **
My oh my. Triple leopard. Now that’s not something you see every day. But how damn good does she look? If you reckon you can rock this look, keep to similarly sporty shapes (great cuffed ankles) and keep your accessories super plain. I think I’d even avoid adding another colour like the red glasses here – the spotty print on three layers is enough.
**Mix Print Styles **
The minimalist leopard print on this clutch gives a nice contrast to the more classic print on the coat. Try pairing up different sizes of print, too.
**Play With Shading **
You might think all beige leopard print is the same, but look closely, and you will start to notice different shapes, shades and spacing. These shoes are a stronger, warmer shade and have a retro feel to them. I love leopard print mixed with sporty accessories, like this baseball cap, as it’s so often associated with Dolce & Gabbana glamour pusses and this feels like a younger, more wearable look.
**Buy Everything In Leopard **
If all else fails, buy a zillion leopard print accessories and wear them all together with a simple outfit like a denim jumpsuit or a sweatshirt and boyfriend jeans. Pick a brilliant pair of shoes, a bag and a hat (or shades when it warms up) and you will double up spot leopard quota in just a few seconds.
