Yep there's one thing you can do to get better orgasms – and it doesn't involve buying anything, or saying anything. Or doing anything.

According to a new sex survey, there's a really easy way to make your boyfriend become a sex god between the sheets, and it doesn't even involve you doing anything. Or buying expensive sex toys. Or doing the ice cubes on the nipples thing (doesn't work, just feels cold). All you need to do is have loads of male friends, and appear a bit like you might cheat on him.

Science says that men have a subconscious alarm that goes off when it looks like there's going to be a sperm competition, and the result is him really trying to nail the whole sex thing so you'll be less likely to shag one of your many male friends, and more likely to have his child. I mean, that's the subconscious process, not the thoughts that are running through his head because he's not a caveman. Except he is, and so are you.

'A lot of work shows that men are sexually aroused by their partner when they estimate a greater likelihood of partner infidelity,' says Michael Pham who was one of the authors of the study that surveyed 400 men in relationships. 'This does not mean that men want their partner to cheat on them. Rather, this means that if they estimate a greater likelihood of their partner’s infidelity, then they may (subconsciously) want to have sex with her to enter into sperm competition.'

It should be pointed out that the sperm competition is the race to get his sperm in your egg rather than another guy's, as opposed to a talent competition featuring a judging panel and lots of sperm singing bad Mariah Carey covers. But don't start pretending to have sex with your male pals whenever your boyfriend is around, because that might freak everyone out. Instead, Michael suggests that there's a balance to be found: 'We need to be reminded that our partner is valuable to us and desirable to others. This makes us keep working at maintaining relationship satisfaction. Finding that right balance of inducing your partner’s jealousy will optimize a couple’s sex life.'

It's the idea that guys like to be kept on their toes, in order to keep striving to be the best – but there's no mention of girls here. Surely the same applies to a woman - if you know that your boyfriend (or girlfriend) is mega hot and everyone fancies them, you're more likely to work at satisfying them rather than sitting around in terrible greying pants telling them to make you a cheese sandwich. And never having sex with them.

Also, surely we should all strive to be excellent boyfriends/girlfriends regardless of how much you think the other person might cheat on you – but as we all know, we're slaves to our biology. Our cave-thumping 'MUST GET BABY' ethos. So maybe there's something in this...
