The ’70s is the era you're going to have to get your head around when it comes to buying into catwalk trends. Nicolas Ghesquière did a space disco ’70s-inspired collection for Louis Vuitton, as did London's most fun designer Henry Holland – and the king of all trendsetting Tom Ford. Basically: it's a thing.

But rather than hitting the high street and buying new replica pieces, why not head back in time and score yourself some original bits from a vintage store. At Beyond Retro you can find everything from work appropriate wears to dance floor winners all a snip of the price than you will find elsewhere. Plus you can guarantee you'll never have that awkward moment of being in the same outfit as anyone.

So we asked plumdiddlyumcious.com blogger Victoria Plum to take over this week's Changing Room Selfies and show us all how to get vintage right.

Flares Will Give You Jourdan Dunn Length Legs

'This is my first flirtation with flares since the bootcut denim days of my teens and I'm in love with them. My legs feel virtually endless! Worn with a simple black polo neck, a felt hat and a colourful crochet cardigan, it's not too all-out Austin Powers. Colourful cardigans are always in abundance in vintage shops and, when the rest of your look is relatively pared back, they add a touch of fun.'

Cardigan £28, Flares £45, Hat £40, Boots £30

Work It Like They Did In The ’70s

'A vibrantly patterned maxi-skirt makes a statement whilst still looking office-appropriate when paired with a blouse. The great thing about maxi-skirts is that no one will ever know you've got two pairs of tights and bed socks on underneath! Love this faux-fur stole as it adds a touch of glam and could be worn over a plain wool coat as an extravagant trim.'

Blouse £18, Long skirt £20, Faux fur stole £25, Boots £40

**Ready For Studio 54 **

'I'm channelling my inner Amy Adams in American Hustle in this glitzy outfit! Now is perhaps the only time of year when it's perfectly acceptable to shimmer and shine from top-to-toe, so go all out gold and layer different tones of metallics and blend sparkle, sequins and texture together to create a Studio 54-appropriate ensemble. New Year's Eve outfit, sorted.'

Dress £32, Sequin jacket £32, Label bag £22, Shoes £16

Think Sports Day In The ’70s

'Nordic jumpers are my favourite kind of festive woolly but don't need to be worn just with jeans. Try with skirts and trainers. Vintage shops are a great place to pick up old-school trainers like Adidas Gazelles, Stan Smiths and Reebok Classics for a snip of the price.'

Nordic jumper £20 or Raglan baseball top £16.50, Red wool skirt £12, Puma trainers £28

**Pick Up – But Dry Clean – Your Winter Woollies

**

'I'm in love with this poncho/cape hybrid. Worn over a thick woolly cricket jumper and a suede skirt it's going to keep any autumnal chill at bay and will also look pretty damn fab worn with those aforementioned flares, too!'

Cape £35, Jumper £28, Skirt £28, Boots £40
