It’s no secret that Rihanna likes a bad boy, but the 26-year-old Bajan singer has really hammered the point home in her interview in the December issue of US Elle magazine – in which she poses topless and claims that ‘Any man who tells me what to do is sexy’.
If that wasn’t enough to ruffle a few feathers, Rihanna also said that all she wants for Christmas is ‘a big, trimmed dick’ and that if she wasn’t a singer she’d be ‘a wife’ – even though she’s apparently absolutely terrified of childbirth.
The article – which marks a celebration of Rihanna becoming the magazine’s ‘most covered celebrity’ with four of its covers – is being marketed as one of the singer’s most shocking interviews to date.
And it’s not all that surprising, especially looking at the quotes in isolation, that a number of people have labelled the star ‘anti-feminist’.
@NYCEMS called Rihanna ‘the new poster girl for feminism’ only a few moments after the quotes were released – no points for spotting the irony in that one – while other users called the star ‘dangerous’, ‘a joke’ and ‘a disgrace to feminism’.
It’s a sad truth that a number of the comments about the quotes have centered around Rihanna’s turbulent relationship with Chris Brown, especially as over the weekend he has been talking about the 2009 incident during which he assaulted and battered his then-girlfriend. He told American radio show Hot97:

‘I feel like through the years, I’ve said [I fucked up] enough now to where it’s like, “Bro if you’re still on that then I feel sorry for y’all, because it’s over with.” I don’t have animosity about it. Obviously, I have remorse about it and it’s something that’s really serious, but as far as the situation – like me and her, we made amends, we good. She’s my friend.
‘So at the end of the day, I knew that was a mistake I would never make again, but I take into consideration like, dang, I was like 17-18 – I’m 25 now – so I look back at it now like, dang, and I’m still doing community service and seeing the judge every month and a half over that situation.’
If you want any indication of how closely Rihanna’s relationship with feminism is being intertwined with her experience with Chris Brown, then look no further than the comments from @Gamine_Girl, saying ‘even after Chris Brown beat Rihanna’s ass I was still a big fan… does that make me anti-feminist?’
Would people feel as strongly about the quotes Rihanna made about finding being told what to do ‘sexy’ if she hadn’t had such a high-profile incident of domestic violence in her past? We’re not sure. But one thing is abundantly clear – no one seems to want to let Chris Brown or Rihanna forget the incident any time soon…
