Eminem’s New Song Slams Iggy Azalea And It’s Not OK

Maybe we were cool with this in the early 00s, when he laid into Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera - but we're not cool with it anymore

Back in the noughties, Eminem rapped on The Real Slim Shady about Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera giving head to then-famous talkshow host Carson Daly, and it was sort of accepted that rap was misogynistic. Now, a new leaked song targets Iggy Azalea's bottom, telling her to 'put that shit away' and warning her not to cry 'rape' (yep, he went there) and we're here to say it's definitely NOT ok. It highlights how the world has moved on, and the 42 year-old rapper certainly hasn't.

Just last week, Eminem had already made headlines after his new music video for another new song Shady Cxvpher targeted Lana Del Rey. He rapped about punching her in the face 'like Ray Rice' (the NFL player who was caught on camera punching his wife so hard she fell unconscious). And now in this new leaked song, believed to be called Vegas, he praises Nicki Minaj for her bottom 'Grab you by the wrist/ Let's ski, so what's it gonna be?', then lays into Iggy Azalea.

The lyrics go: 'Bitch, shut the fuck up and get in my car. And suck my fucking dick,' he says in the one minute clip. 'So what's it gon' be? Put that shit away Iggy. You don't wanna blow that rape whistle on me. Scream! I love it. 'Fore I get lost with the gettin' off.'

But this is not something you can just say anymore, because stuff has changed since *The Slim Shady LP *and *Marshall Mathers LP *came out. When we're banning people like Julien Blanc from the country for talking about choking women, it follows that we won't take kindly to you threatening to drag a 24 year-old artist in your humvee and rape her.

Obviously, Iggy came back with a typically brilliant rebuff, tweeting:

Of course while we'd like to think the face of rap has changed, the fact that mainstream artists like Jay Z rap stuff like 'Eat the cake, Anna Mae' on his and Beyonce's duet Drunk In Love - a reference to Tina Turner who got beaten up regularly by her husband Ike - means that there's still a long way to go.

'Look, I've been doing this shit for, what, 14 years now?' Eminem told Rolling Stone by way of an explanation. 'And I think people know my personal stance on things and the personas that I create in my music. And if someone doesn't understand that by now, I don't think there's anything I can do to change their mind about it.'

Hey Marshall - we all understand you. We just happen to think it's not acceptable. It all stinks of being a desperate attempt for you to remain relevant. And well, you're not.
