'Room' And 5 Other Books To Read Before The Films Come Out

You know how when you got to see a really good film and you go to tell your friend about it and she's all like, 'Oh yeah but have you read the book?' Annoying isn't it?

Well, here's your chance to be that person, because really that's all you really wanted.

The Room

The film that got everyone excited at Toronto Film Festival, this book by Emma Donghue was a huge hit in 2010 and bears uncomfortable resemblence to a serveral real-life cases including Josef Frtizl and Ariel Castro. The book looks at the life of a mother and son held captive by a man for year and year through the eyes of the little boy who is blissfully unaware of the horrors of his life thanks to the world his mother's created for him in their cell, which she calls 'Room'. As the reader though, seeing it through his eyes, only makes it more heartbreaking.

How long do I have to read it in?: It's out January 29 2016

The Danish Girl

You've almost certainly see the stunning trailer for this film featuring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander, and you definitely know that the film focusses on the real life Lili Ebe, one of the first people ever to undergo gender reassignment surgery. But the film itself is based on David Ebershoff's novel; a fictionalised account of Lili's life that came out in 2000.

How long do I have to read it in?: It's out January 1, 2016

Brooklyn

The film of this book by Irish novelist Colm Toibin is set to hit our screens in November and stars Saoirse Roman and Domhall Gleeson. It's about an Irish girl struggling to find work who makes the move across the Atlantic to live in Brooklyn, New York. Whilst there, she meets a man she falls in love with, but it's on a trip back to Ireland that she finds what might be her true love. Torn between two countries, and two men, Elly has to decide what to do.

How long do I have to read it in?: It's out November 6th 2015

The Price Of Salt

Written by Patricia Highsmith (the stonking genius behind The Talented Mr. Ripley) this book is being made into Carol, the film out later this year starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara about a young, bored shop assistant who starts a relationship with an older, glamourous married woman who comes into the shop she works at in 1950's New York.

How long do I have to read it in?: It's out 27 November 2015

The Light Between Oceans

This M.L. Stedman book's film adaption isn't out until 2015 but it's starring Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender. The book is about a couple who, after the husband returns from World War One, move to a lighthouse. When a baby girl washes up at their door, they take her in to care for her; uncertain of the consequences their actions will bring.

How long do I have to read it in?: It's out in early 2016
