If Marques Almeida wasn’t top of your list of new designer names to drop before London Fashion Week in September, then they definitely will be now, thanks to the armies of editors sporting distressed denim by the Topshop Newgen winner at the shows.

This Thursday sees the launch of a Topshop collaboration with the hot-right-now design duo, which is set to seal the deal in anointing them as the latest bright young British designers. As well as their signature denim pieces, which will include ripped jeans, tunic tops, shorts, skirts, parkas and an mad-for-it bucket hat, there will be ribbed knitwear, brightly-coloured taffeta blouses, a soft leather Crombie coat and pencil skirt, faux fur, and a cute jersey triangle bra and knicker shorts to wear under it all. And the best news? Prices start at £30 with jeans coming in at £70.

The collection hits Topshop nationwide and online from 9 October 2014 but we managed to get our hands on a few pieces early to help you out in what's going to be an inevitable shopping scrum…

The ripped jeans

You could not get any further from Liz Hurley with these ripped up, slouchy white jeans, and we’ve never seen a better reason to deviate from blue, quite frankly. They’re super-comfortable and actually quite crisp and smart, so work especially well with a fancy embellished top for an unexpected night-out combo.

The shift dress

How have you lived so long without an indigo denim shift dress? That’s what you’ll think the second you put this on. Worn alone with white sneakers, it’s the best summer outfit you could want, and layered up with lighter denim, with a jersey top under or a slouchy cardigan thrown over, it’ll be your favourite winter look too.

The ’60s coat

A ladylike dress-coat found its way into plenty of collections for S/S15, Carven being our favourite, but they can feel a little stiff at times. Marques Almeida’s torn touch takes any prissiness out of this one, which could be worn buttoned up as a dress on its own, or over an equally ’60s-influenced mini-dress.

The oversized parka

Swooshing cape-like denim has become a Marques Almeida staple, and their oversized parka is a seriously practical step along from the backless bib-tops they did on the catwalk without losing any of their spirit. Wearing it with a slinky black satin maxi-dress takes it out of a field in Knebworth, where this style was last seen in the Brit-Pop days, to a bonefide outfit for your next pub session in Peckham. Or wherever.
