Think H&M and you think immediately about its excellently valued basic cotton and holiday staples, right? It's not the first place that springs to mind when you're thinking: 'Ooooh where can I go to get some brand-new unique stuff that's going to BLOW my mates' minds?'
But it is that place. It really is. Their A/W14 Studio Collection catwalk show was one of the best in Paris earlier this year and that stuff's all just dropped in store. We're talking leather in dynamic cuts, beaded shifts, statement jackets and boots with mega presence. Out of H&M Studio, there's a ton of goodness too. Namely a lot of excellent coats and statement knitwear.
So here goes for today's Changing Room Selfies…
** The sixties shift**
The Twiggiest of silver shift dresses. The thing we'd totally been looking for when we wrote this. It's a great shift dress. Could be the ticket for fancy dress with cat-flick eyeliner and white lipstick. Or just, y'know, normal wear with chelsea boots.

The 2 in 1 poloneck
To think that polonecks were once the claustrophobic scourge of the knitwear drawer! They've been growing in importance – and no jumper collection is complete without one. I love this 'double' knit, which is actually a bit of a cheater: it's just half a sleeve and a double rolled neck. I really don't like pink and I still very nearly bought it. So if you do like pink buy it immediately. And wear with some normcore grey slacks to tone down the pink.

The new pink coat
Pink is here, never fear, it has not gone away. At all. This coat is a brilliant option for anyone into the 'pink' thing. Just as good as all those ones people are paying £400 for. I very almost bought this – as a dressing gown. The thing about belted wool coats is that they are very similar to dressing gowns. This one could actually be executed AS a dressing gown because it's pyjama coloured. And that's not an insult; I think it's excellently made and, if I saw you on the street wearing this, I'd give you a little nod of admiration.

The 'it' knit
It really is the reign of the jumper. Because alongside polonecks, 'it' knits – chunky, boldly coloured, having a total party – are a huge thing. People are paying serious money for these guys. Thank gu'ness for H&M who've produced something that could easily pass as Jonathan Saunders but is like a 10th of the price. Team with a leather pencil skirt – this had some nice sort-of floral emboss – for work-friendly daywear.

The camel duo
Camel is the new neutral, making a strong presence on the street-style scene at Fashion Week thus far. H&M have got some excellent examples of it, too. This belted coat is the best way to do 'non-boho' fringe and the H&M Studio leather wide-cut trousers should look completley heinous on, but are actually very persuasive. Like caramel for the leg. Roomily cut, they make one feel like a high fashion oompa loompa. Oh, and that's a good thing, btw.

The beaded blouse
What H&M Studio did really well was beaded apparel – there was also a very nice striped beaded shift dress. This is pretty much your go-to party top, it's business up front with a high crew neckline and party out back – it's almost totally open. This would work as well with a leather mini as it would jeans. Very versatile.
