Remember when you only wore athletic garb for PE or to the gym? Well things have come a long way since then, courtesy of sporting, sorry, fashion heroes including Alexander Wang, Acne, DKNY, Preen and 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Your sportswear update for this season is go bold, or go home. Think colour – Chanel went all Jackson Pollock with its activewear-inspired collection, so the brighter, the better. Flashy is also the way to go thanks to Tom Ford, who gave sports jerseys the Elton John treatment (sequins, sequins and more sequins), while the crop top’s persistence in finding a place in our hearts means that the cheapest accessory to wear with this trend is some hard-ass abs. Hey, we said cheapest. But certainly not easiest.

Here's how to update your sporty scene…

**Cotton Be Gone. It's All About Silks Now

**

You might not fancy mixing sequins into your gym kit, à la Monsieur Ford, but a slinky jogger has never felt as right as it does now sport’s gone mega-glam. That’ll be why this one of Bella Freud’s famously luxe knits has had the track’n’ field treatment. Whatever your sportswear penchant – shorts, track-pants, sweatshirts – pick ’em in silk, cashmere or with a glittering embellishment. Wear with heels and you’re onto a winner.

**Flash A Sports Bra

**

Obviously a clean one, not a sweaty number. Pair with track pants for a Sporty Spice throwback and throw on a camo bomber jacket if you were always more All Saints inclined.

**Neon + White = All Things Bright

**

Neon is an excellent way to up your sporty ante, especially on high-performance fabrics and scuba shapes. Mix them with bright white for maximum impact or wear high-glow trainers with tailored trousers and knitwear for a SFW take on the trend.
