Last Monday morning, the bodies of UK backpackers 23-year-old Hannah Witheridge and 24-year-old David Miller were found on a beach in Koh Tao, Thailand, after suffering severe head wounds. A bloody garden hoe was found near the scene, and police have found new evidence that may indicate that the brutal attacks could be due to 'sexual jealousy'.
'We have discovered fresh evidence that could lead to a new suspect who may have had a relationship or one-night stand with Hannah, or one of her friends, or David, the night before they were killed,' said Police Colonel Kissana Phathanacharoen. 'We have asked the Metropolitan Police to go back and make enquiries of Hannah's friends on this matter. No lines of inquiry can be ruled out and we believe these crimes could have been motivated by sexual jealousy.'

He went on to address rumours that Miller and Witheridge had a fight with a Thai man in a bar before they were killed, saying that the police 'cannot confirm if they are true'. The claims that DNA of two Asian men were found on the body of Hannah Witheridge were confirmed as untrue, and it has become more likely that either she, Miller or one of her friends had had a one-night stand the previous night that could be linked to the murders.
Police are offering a £4,000 reward for information on the case, and around 150 officers have been deployed on the island to find the killer. The enquiries continue.
