All that business about Fashion Week heel-burn and stilettos v Somerset House cobbles is as old as Carrie Bradshaw's Manolo habit. These days editors, bloggers, models and peripheral beautiful people are stampeding from show to show in flat shoes. Fancy flats, of course – this is Fashion Week not Freshers' Week after all – but flats none-the-less. This season that seems to mean anything shiny, sparkly and metallic.

Where's this come from? Chanel, of course. They styled their A/W14 collection with silvery trainers that have become the footwear of choice for the comfort-seeking fashion elite who are willing to spend the big bucks on novelty sneakers. For us mere mortals a holographic Nike pair – yours for a slightly more modest £80 – might be a more realistic shoe in on the trend. But we're also loving these golden brogues and sling-back pointy flats with a bit of a twinkle.
