The topic of female superheroes is all the rage these days. Firstly, Marvel announced Thor would be changing gender from male to female, then Wonder Woman’s dark new look was unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con (see below). Now, Sony has said it has a female superhero movie on the way.

Here’s what we have so far: The character will be spun off from the Spider-Man series, but it’s not yet known which badass lady will get her own film. The options range from Spider-Woman to Stunner, Firestar and some other characters we’re admittedly not too familiar with. We should probably get with the times, though, since 46 per cent of people reading comics are female.

The making of the movie is reportedly Sony’s attempt to satisfy movie audience’s growing appetite for female-led productions. Yesterday it was revealed that Ghostbusters is being rebooted with an all female-led cast.
