Prepare for some conflicting feelings right now, because with news that North West has done her first fashion shoot, your eyes are half rolling in disbelief of how weird it is that a one-year-old is posing in fashion shoots, but on the other hand your pupils are dilating in anticipation of gazing at said photos.
Posing in a cashmere jumper and Chanel bag – yes, really – for ex-French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld's magazine CR Fashion Book, North is pictured alongside a quote from Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld: 'It's never too early to care about fashion!' Although something tells us North, for all her steely gazes off camera in the artfully-lit black and white photo, might prefer to be enjoying herself somewhere else.
Logically, it's no wonder that the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West would appear in a fashion shoot. Kim sells every aspect of her life, while somehow retaining a cool aloof mystery that makes us still kind of interested in her. Plus, we all know from a few of his rants that Kanye would love to be more involved in the fashion industry, if they really wanted him to be.
However, it is a little weird that North is a fashion model who's going straight in with the high-brow, top-end editorials. We're not saying she doesn't deserve to be there – after all, her first official photos were taken by Vogue earlier this year – but surely it's a bit more on-brand for a child model to be in a Gap Kids campaign full of bouncy balls or stuffed toys dressed in clothes no one will mourn for if she dribbles all over them? Those shoots appear to be much more of a giggle than this one.
