FYI, Women Have Just Won England The Rugby World Cup

OK, so you might not have heard they were even playing, but they were, and they totally smashed it…

It's not only infootball where the women of England's international team excel over the men, winning actual tournaments, but in the rugby, too. England Women's team didn't only beat Canada by 21-9 in the final of the Women's Rugby World Cup in Paris, but the goal difference they accrued over the competition was quite something. If our maths serves us correctly, they got 184 points through the games and conceded 37, which means, they got about five points for every opponents' one.

The victory is a long time coming – the last time England won the tournament was in 1994. When you consider that all of England's female rugby players, even in those high ranks, have to work day jobs, it makes it even more impressive.

Ahead of their win, Becky Essex, who is 31 and works as a special needs teacher, told The Guardian: 'I love my job. The chance to play a sport you love as a full professional would, of course, be an amazing opportunity and I hope that the sport is going in that direction.'

She added: 'It's great it's taught in schools now and I hope girls aren't still put off by the notion it's somehow risky. The benefits far outweigh any possible risk of injury. This is a fantastic sport and we're just grateful to be able to play for our country, it's a tremendous honour.'

You might have heard the tiniest bit about this rugby tournament before; last week it was reported that Sky Sports had to apologise after a broadcasting from the team chat in the huddle got sweary. Captain Katy McLean was heard saying a load of 'fucks' in the morale-boosting chat, which culminated in: 'They are not going to know what's fucking hit them, we are fucking England!' The apology was instantaneous, but picked up everywhere, with the video above doing the rounds, too.

It's funny (weird, not haha), though; no right-thinking sports broadcaster would try to film within the huddle at a men's rugby game for fear of turning the airwaves into a running swearfest, so why did they think the women were going to be any different? Oh well, looks like England Women's Rugby team has had the last (sweary) laugh.
