We Try On All Of The Pink And Red In French Connection So You Don’t Have To

Who said this clash wouldn't work?

You know how pink and red should never be worn together?** Well that rule is dead and buried. Pink and red now go together like Kunis and Kutcher. Just ask Leandra Medine.

And after a quick scout of the high street (all in the name of research), we found French Connection, of all places, are doing ‘The Great Clash Of 2014’ best. So we went down to take some more Changing Room Selfies. (PS: please forgive me for exposing my lunacy in this episode of CRS. You try rotating three separate batches of exclusively red and pink items when you can only take in four things into the changing room at a time without the staff thinking you've got issues.)

The wedding clash

It does very good weddingwear, does old French Connection, with a reliable batch of form-fitting dresses (also very useful if you are a power woman in the board room). Offset a tight dress with something boxy, like this Waterflower Capped Sleeve Dress, £55 in the sale, with a sateen Summer Stories Cropped Jacket in Capri Blush, £130.

The sandcastle clash

Now where's my bucket and spade? A ribbed fisherman sweater and some jazzy denim shorts is very ‘mini break in Cornwall’. You think I mock, but wait till you see me in Cornwall on May bank holiday weekend, wearing this Willow Knits Jumper in Pale Pink, £49, and a pair of Poppy Cropped Jeans in Havana Red, £65. You bring the Bacardi and I’ll meet you on Daymer Bay. OK?

The spring fling clash

This Sunkissed Silk Dress, £130, is begging for some cherry blossom and pink champagne. My favourite of the bunch, it would be dead useful for any spring party.

The workwear clash

Note: not suitable for corporate environs. But for less dresscode-enforced professions, this Hot Crush Top, £50, and linen Laguna Pencil Skirt, £70, will cheer any meeting up. This tomato pencil skirt is actually super versatile: it would work as well with a tailored black jacket as it would a cropped tee and Converse on holiday.

The cricket clash

Love a cricket jumper, me. If you can't afford Rag & Bone's stand-out deep V, then French connection have three wonderful versions (this Cricket Knits Jumper, £60, comes in navy and white and white and black). Looks great with jeans and very nearly came home with me.

The everyday clash

A textured sweater and skinny zipper jeans: the everyday uniform, right? I’m grimacing because I swore I’d never put on a pair of pastel jeans, let alone pink ones. The things I do for you. These Lilly Zip Skinny Jeans in Capri Blush, £75 (they come in 10 different colours which is useful), are actually a really nice fit, although definitely better without the Summer Mozart Red Jumper, £49. In fact, both pieces are very nice alone. This might just be the one example where The Great Clash Of 2014 doesn't really work. Oh well, you can't win ’em all, right?

PS: send us your Changing Room Selfies and you could win a £50 shopping voucher to spend in H&M.
