It's the murder investigation that's lasted years – quite literally. But yesterday a UK court ruled that honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani will be extradited to South Africa to face charges of ordering the killing of his 28-year-old wife Anni in the back of a taxi in Cape Town in 2010.

33-year-old Dewani is currently being held in a psychiatric hospital under the Mental Health Act and had requested that he not be extradited until he recovered from his illnesses, which include PTSD and depression. But after guarantees from the South African government to keep the case from going to trial while Dewani recovers, his lawyers' had their request to take the case to the Supreme Court denied by a panel of judges at the High Court.

It means that Anni's family – who have spoken at length about their life feeling like it's been on hold during the legal proceedings – are one step closer to finding out what happened to their daughter. Dewani says carjackers forced him from the taxi and drove off with his wife in the back seat, ultimately killing her. A taxi driver Zola Tongo and two gunmen Xolile Mngeni and Mziwamadoda Qwabe – who claim to have been in contact with Deawni – are already in jail as a result of their involvement.
