In the just landed March issue of W magazine, the super-smart estranged son of Woody Allen, Ronan Farrow, asks Miley Cyrus one of the greatest cultural questions of the now: what* is* 'sexy'? And it turns out Cyrus has got a lot to say on the subject. For all the latex, nipple pasties and twerking, it appears Miley is vehemently dismissive of all the 'obvious', girlish ploys.

'I just don't get what half the girls are wearing. Everyone to me seems like Vanna White [a blonde American actress with pin-up curves]. I'm trying to tell girls, like "Fuck that. You don't have to wear make-up. You don't have to have long blonde hair and big titties. That's not what it's about. It's, like, personal style,"' she says.

And what of her on-stage nudity? Well, that's all down to the fact she grew up as a kid playing outdoors on her dad's farm in Tennesee. 'We never were inside, and we never wore shoes,' she says. 'I think it’s why I like wearing no clothes so much and I’m always naked.'

The *W *magazine is her second high-fashion cover in as many week, following hot on the heels of her Love cover- and of course a huge campaign for Marc Jacobs. So does that mean Miley – like Kim Kardashian – is being brought fully into the fashion fold? Well if so it's been a slow process. As editor-in-chief of Love, Katie Grand puts it, Miley is like Marmite: 'At first I wasn't sure about Miley. A lot of people aren't. It was tricky to borrow clothes for the shoot, because she divides opinion. Many people who I respect didn't want to get involved'. That didn't put Grand off though: 'Miley is the most charming, intriguing celebrity I've ever come across'.

Miley shoots, Miley scores. And yet, she still hasn't quite convinced us on the Chanel rucksack as running gear thing...
